Hazardous Materials Response

Drexel Heights Fire District has an agreement with Pima County for participation in a countywide Hazardous Materials Response Team. The apparatus used by this team is a state-of-the-art response vehicle worth in excess of $250,000. It is capable of detecting nuclear contamination, as well as detecting and handling most biological and chemical emergencies and is staffed by specially trained Hazardous Materials Technicians.

Drexel Heights Fire District is concerned about our residents’ well being should our community experience a natural disaster or a terrorist emergency. Disaster preparedness works. Make sure you have an emergency communication plan with your family and prepare a disaster supply kit. Taking preparatory action will reassure yourself and your family that you have some measure of control in a disaster situation.

Metropolitan Medical Response System

For a number of years the District has been a participating agency in the Tucson Metropolitan Medical Response System (MMRS). The system is set up in metro areas across the country to enable agencies to respond to large scale medical emergencies. In 2009, DHFD received a MMRS trailer and has been involved in various regional training sessions.

Technical Rescue Team

The District’s Technical Rescue Team specializes in difficult rescue operations including high-angle, confined space, rough terrain and swift water rescues. The Technical Rescue Team trains continuously as their specialized skills are called upon many times each year in the District’s mountainous areas, washes, and even in the Central Arizona Project canals.

Wildland Firefighting

Drexel Heights Fire District’s Wildland Team is comprised of firefighters who have additional specialized training in the area of Wildland Firefighting. The District’s Wildland Team responds locally and nationally to Wildland fires.

It is important for our residents to remember that because we have very dry seasons we need to remove dry vegetation and other debris that could fuel a brush fire. Homeowners should keep a defensible space and clear any flammable vegetation to protect your family and your home.
